Montparnasse
The Montparnasse Tower and station, once the artistic rival to the Left Bank cafés of Saint-Germain — now a major transit hub with modern buildings surrounding a historic core.
What makes it distinct
Right around the tower and station, infrastructure is considerably more modern than the traditional Haussmannian streets that make up most of the 14th. It's also one of the busiest transit points in the city, with a mix of offices, shops and hotels sitting on genuinely different-aged plumbing than the residential streets just a block or two away.
Who calls us here
A lot of our calls right around Montparnasse come from travellers arriving or departing by train who've hit a problem in a nearby hotel, plus office and retail staff in the buildings around the tower.
Dispatched locally
Same verified network as everywhere else we cover — briefed on this neighbourhood before they arrive, not just "somewhere in Paris".
Good to know
Different from the older residential plumbing found just a few streets away in the rest of the 14th.
Heavy day-to-day use near the station is a common source of blocked drains in commercial units nearby.
A fair share of our emergency call-outs here come from travellers who've just arrived and hit a problem.
A block or two from the tower, expect the same ageing hot water systems as the rest of the 14th.
Wider area
Montparnasse sits within the 14th Arrondissement — same English-speaking line either way, but if you're just outside this specific neighbourhood, the arrondissement page covers the wider area.
