Every minute counts with an active leak
Water where it shouldn't be doesn't wait for a translator. Call now, we'll talk you through stopping the flow while a plumber is on the way.
Do this first
Whether it's a slow leak or a genuinely burst pipe, Paris apartments generally follow the same layout: the stopcock (robinet d'arrêt) sits under the kitchen sink, in a hallway cupboard, or near the water meter if you have one inside the flat. Turning it clockwise shuts off the water to the property and buys time before the plumber arrives. If you can't find it or aren't sure, tell us on the call — we'll talk you through it.
What's usually going on
Often the cause behind a leak that's appeared suddenly under a sink or behind an appliance — usually a quick fix once located.
Common in older Haussmannian buildings, where original pipework can develop small leaks as it ages.
If the water is coming through your ceiling, the source may be a neighbour's leak rather than your own plumbing — we can help you work out which it is.
Less common but more urgent — a split in the pipe itself, usually needing a section replaced rather than just tightened.
Insurance
Water damage in France is officially called a dégât des eaux, and it comes with its own paperwork — usually a joint report (constat amiable) between you and any affected neighbour, for your insurer. Our plumber can identify and document the source of the leak, which is often exactly what your insurance will ask for. We'll explain what's relevant in plain English as we go.
Source found, source fixed
Finding exactly where a leak starts matters more than how fast it's wiped up — the plumber traces it back before repairing anything.
